ABOUT THE PLAY:

A FIERCE LONGING was first performed by Milwaukee’s Theatre X in April, 1978.

The play was developed in workshop by the Theatre X company.  Later in 1978 it came to Theatre Project in Baltimore and LaMama ETC in NYC. This is a highly visual, multi-media production that borrows stylistically from Japanese theater traditions. Members of the ensemble cast each perform multiple roles, with the exception of the actor playing Mishima. The play is drawn from the life and work of the Nobel nominated Japanese novelist and playwright.
