POSITION OVERVIEW

The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) nurtures and promotes a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable arts and cultural community embraced by all as accessible, relevant, and essential to the region’s quality of life. GBCA supports the needs of more than 100 members from the Baltimore region (Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties) including arts, culture, history, heritage, and attraction organizations as well as individual artists. GBCA requires a strong infrastructure to steward its members and to develop new programs and initiatives.

GBCA’s External Affairs Intern will play an important role in focusing GBCA’s public presence. He or she will work closely with staff during a time of transition and growth by supporting the operations and upgrade of the BaltimoreFunGuide.com, GBCA’s social media presence, database management, and live Webcasts. The position reports to the incoming Communications Associate. This is a part-time, three-month summer internship and the intern will receive a stipend. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GBCA is in the process of undertaking a full redesign of its web presence including BaltimoreFunGuide.com. The intern will be responsible for collecting, receiving and entering data on the calendar site and working through the transition with the Communications Associate. The intern will also work closely with the Membership and Development Services Associate in the implementation of a new database. Job responsibilities include:
• Oversee GBCA website/blog
• Coordinate, compile, and distribute weekly FunSavers e-blast
• Oversee GBCA’s online presence and communications efforts, including social media
• Coordinate live Webcasts
• Handling other duties as assigned and necessary in a timely and professional manner.

REQUIREMENTS
• In-depth knowledge of current web technology and experience with social media
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Knowledge of design-based software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign a plus
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a broad range of individuals from GBCA’s stakeholder base
• Appreciation for the role and impact of arts and culture in the region
• General knowledge of the Baltimore region’s cultural community, experience with film and video, and/or graphic design experience are a plus

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to thrive and work effectively as part of a small team in a fast-paced and rapidly growing program.

Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher or other design software) in a Mac environment. Membership/donor management software experience a plus.

A proven commitment to the arts and culture sector.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, anticipate needs, meet deadlines, problem-solve and multi-task.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Ability to build rapport with members, donors, volunteers, and the public with diplomacy, discretion, and customer-service orientation.

INTRODUCTION

The BSO’s marketing department promotes the many aspects of the world-class Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The BSO presents nearly 160 concerts throughout the season across a diverse range of series including Off the Cuff, Classical, Family, SuperPops and mid-week education concerts serving public, private schools and home-school students in Baltimore City, Baltimore, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Howard counties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The marketing intern’s projects will include, but are not limited to:
• Developing and implementing promotions and partnerships to generate ticket sales
• Maintaining concierge desk and materials
• Assisting in the execution of subscriber retention, loyalty and recognition programs
• Monitoring and developing Social Media campaigns
• Researching projects
• Proofreading print advertising and collateral materials
• Clipping BSO print advertisements for archives
• Coordinating e-marketing projects
• Pursuing group sales opportunities
• Developing campaigns for student and young professionals initiatives
• Supporting marketing initiatives at concerts

The marketing intern will also assist with administrative and general marketing duties, and at times, will support the BSO Marketing Department at both venues, including The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland.

The marketing intern is supervised by the Manger of Single Ticket Sales and assists in all marketing needs. The intern is eligible for complimentary tickets when available.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should possess strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills and have an interest in gaining valuable and direct experience in the marketing department of a major performing arts organization. College students at the junior, senior and graduate levels studying marketing, public relations or communication are preferred. BALTIMORE ROCK OPERA SOCIETY (BROS) seeks Interns and Volunteers

Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) seeks Interns and Volunteers for roles in the Costume Department of its Spring 2013 production, MURDERCASTLE. Interns can earn college credit through participating in the production, and volunteers will collaborate with other great artists in Baltimore’s leading rock theater production outfit and ultimately present their work in front of over 1,500 fist-pumping maniacal fans!

The show:
MURDERCASTLE recounts the life and times of H.H. Holmes, America’s first documented serial killer. Set to a musical score which includes styles from death metal to marching band arrangements, BROS recreates the splendor of the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, the dashing entrepreneurship that Holmes used to build a small empire, and the grotesque fate of his victims.

Help wanted:
MURDERCASTLE features over 20 characters, some with costume changes, and Interns will be responsible for designing and crafting many of the costumes for the show. Working with Costume Director Naomi Davidoff, Interns will gain experience in a large, production-oriented, and facemeltingly fun work environment.

Arts Integration/Education Internship

Learn all about how teachers and artists partner together to learn, plan, and teach arts integrated lessons. Arts integration is an innovative method of teaching in which students demonstrate their understanding (of math, reading, science, social studies, etc.) through an art form (like music, dance, theatre, visual art.) Work in an exciting and interactive atmosphere with professional artists and experienced public school educators. Exposure to our Teaching Artist Training program will give you a once in a lifetime experience.

Baltimore Choral Arts Society seeks Marketing Intern

Baltimore Choral Arts is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented intern to join our Marketing team this summer. This is an ideal opportunity for someone to participate in the strategies and mechanics of a successful non-profit arts organization. This part-time, unpaid position (12-20 hours per week) will begin on or about July 1, 2012.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Marketing and Development Associate in Choral Arts’ participation in Artscape.
  • Research potential Foundation and Corporate donors
  • Assist Choral Arts staff with clerical and other duties as directed.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer proficiency, preferably with experience in MS Office suite and Facebook.

Baltimore Choral Arts / Intern Expectations

While this is not a paid position, Baltimore Choral Arts Society will provide the Special Event / Marketing Intern with a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of its organization. BCAS is nationally recognized for the quality of its programming and performances and has an experienced, professional staff. By the end of the internship, the intern will have a broad understanding of a performing arts organization.

In return for this education and experience, the intern will be held to the same professional standards as BCAS paid employees. At the end of the internship, BCAS will do an intern performance review and will ask the intern to provide an evaluation of the internship experience.

Position Description: The intern will assist the Practicing Democracy Project Manager and Program Officer in MHC’s Baltimore offices by maintaining a database of project participants and partners, assisting with oral history interviews including transcribing and editing audio and tracking release forms, and identifying and scheduling opportunities for MHC to participate in public events and meetings on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Qualifications and Skills: Upper level undergraduate or graduate student. English or other humanities discipline.  An interest in public dialogue, civic engagement and community building.  Excellent verbal and writing skills. Computer proficiency and attention to detail. Time Commitment: 6-10 hours a week during office hours (M-F; 9:00-5:00) for a minimum of ten weeks.

Compensation:  This is an unpaid position; however college credit may be arranged depending upon student’s institutional requirements.
